Empowering Washington, D.C. to Meet Sustainability Goals

Washington, D.C. has set ambitious goals to reduce energy consumption and manage stormwater more effectively within the city. As outlined in the Sustainable D.C. Plan, the goal is to improve performance by retrofitting 100% of existing commercial and multi-family buildings to net-zero energy standards by 2032. In order to relieve pressures on stormwater infrastructure, their target is to use 75% of the city’s land to capture rainwater for filtration or reuse.

Using Autodesk® InfraWorks® 360 and a suite of sustainable analysis tools, the District was able to play out scenarios for how to attain these agenda-setting goals, carving a path for “S.M.A.R.T.-er” use of technology and setting an example other cities can follow.
